National Weather Service Plans Camille Town Hall Meeting
The National Weather Service Blacksburg Office will host a Town Hall meeting to remember Hurricane Camille in Virginia and to discuss improvements in weather forecasting. The meeting is set for Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 7-9 p.m. in Lexington at the Leslie Gillie ’29 Theater in the Center for Leadership and Ethics, located at 500 Anderson Dr. The event is free and open to the public.
Meteorologists will provide an overview of the NWS mission to protect lives and property; review weather safety tips; show videos of the destructive power of severe weather; and discuss how weather data, warning decisions and communications have changed since Hurricane Camille struck 40 years ago.
No pre-registration is required to attend the Town Hall meeting. Those who attend will have the opportunity to ask questions and to provide feedback on the services offered by the NWS.
